Misako MAEGAKI

Artist Profile

About Misako MAEGAKI

Misako MAEGAKI always wishes that her sculptures could interact with the audiences, not only by their eyes, but also by their bare skins. Ever since she started her creations, she feels that all artificial product is so insignificant when compared to our mother nature; even until now, she lost her heart to the beauty of the nature. “My art pieces are not a passive scenery, but they can also be touched,” she said. Via touching, one can easily feel the fine textures and sense of mass of the sculptures, which can eliminate the distance between her art pieces and the audience. Just like Misako MAEGAKI always says “The higher the dream is, the more approachable it shall be.”

The curiosity of cats and children

The curvy, cute appearance is one of the trademarks of Misako sculptures. The mixture of cats, kids and some inspirations are the fundamental concepts of Misako’s art pieces. Her housemates, her cats, and two nephews are her creations’ prototypes; she is always inspired by them in the daily routine. Misako thinks that children and cats are very similar: their fragility, unpredictability and most important of all, their naivety and curiously. The inner world of cats and kids always capture Misako’s attention, and that becomes the fundamentals of her creations. If you pay close attention to her art pieces, you will notice the sculptures’ expressions are vivid; they seems they are observing the world when they open their eyes, and return to limbo when they fall asleep.
