Macpro Gallery is committed to promoting various forms of art. In May, Macpro Gallery cooperated with Livia Meldolesi, an Italian fashion designer, to hold a cross over event of contemporary art x swim wear show. In June and July, the Gallery launched the “Dialogue with Japanese Contemporary Art” exhibition. This time, we bring you another form of art - architecture and photography. Landscape architecture plays an important role in a city, it showcases the social productivity and the aesthetic taste. This photography exhibition will bring the master pieces of the world famous architect, Álvaro Siza, through the lens of Fernando Guerra for everyone to enjoy. And this time, we are honored to have the company of Siza and Guerra to attend the Press Conference and Inauguration Ceremony of the exhibition. Friends of media could take this opportunity to chat with them.
Siza is a highly respected architect in his field, he was honored with numerous international architectural award titles for his works, including the 1992 Pritzker Architecture Prize, which is regarded as the Nobel Prize for architecture. And in 2012, he received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition at Venice Biennial. His works emphasize simplicity and functionality, he respects the harmonious coexistence among culture, history and environment. Often simple but very elegant outlines and poetic tone to render the building, no wonder his works is always described as "poetic modernism." His unique perspective on architecture influences many architects around the world in this century.
Like Siza, Guerra studied architecture. He worked as an architect in Macau from 1994-1999. Through his lens, he can capture not just the exterior beauty of the building but also its spiritual essence. Both of them work well with light and shadow, through the coordination with volume, space, depth, details and the natural environment, create realities that are almost unreal in their beauty, comfort and harmony.
Siza’s renowned master pieces are numerous, scattered in different corners of the world. In Europe, his works include the Portuguese Pavilion for Expo98 in Lisbon, Portugal; restoration project of Chiado in Lisbon, Portugal; Novartis Campus, Basel, Switzerland; etc. In South Korea, there are several works including Mimesis Museum, Amore Pacific Campus – Research & Design Center & Anyang Álvaro Siza Hall. In recent years, Siza was invited to create his architecture work in Taiwan and China. Last month, he inaugurated his first work in Taiwan, The Siza House- TFGC. Chang Hua County, Taiwan. And the first work in China, “The Building On the Water” in Jiangsu Province was just inaugurated 2 days ago.
This heavyweight Portuguese architect has already accepted the invitation to work out a design plan for a large scale renovation project of a long history in Macau, Hotel Sun Sun. This time Siza will visit the old urban area in Macau, along the Parça de Ponte e Horta to Ah Ma Temple. Siza has enriched experience in city restoration and urban design aspects, we hope the architect master could provide us suggestions on the proposal of revitalizing this district with the goal of bringing sustainable growth to the area and then present to the concerned government bodies for reference.

Charity Silent Auction
Macpro Gallery has been promoting art is life, we hope people can appreciate art while showing care for the underprivileged groups in our society. When we shared the thought with Siza to fund raise for charity by a silent auction of his work, he showed his support and offered us 10 print sets of his Macau themed sketches for this call. Each print set consists of 7 different prints of sketches and goes with a Macau characteristic folder. The minimum bid for each set of print is MOP5,000.
During the exhibition, the 7 sketches will be displayed for audience’s close look. The whole amount of funds raised will be donated to “Association of Parents of the Mentally Challenged of Macau”.
